What is minute writing?

The art of minute writing is exactly that, an art. Our years of experience in this field have enabled us to hone our minute writing skills to such a degree that we can cut through a lengthy, detailed discussion and record the salient points and any agreed actions. When writing minutes, we do not merely write a full transcript of the meeting or record who said what to whom. Minute writing in a virtual world

With the rise of virtual meetings, we have seen an increase in the number of software applications that transcribe the meeting, which have become more sophisticated over the last few months.  Whilst these applications may be useful to us as the minute writer as an aide memoire, they are not useful as minutes of a meeting.  During a 23-minute-long test meeting, the transcript produced by one of these apps was 28-pages-long, although it accurately distinguished between the different speakers, the majority of the text was nonsense. These results are from only one test, and I am sure that the transcription will improve, but the key point is that lengthy transcripts are not the same as minutes and should never be able to replace them.
